The leagues have announced their Players of the Week, honoring a future Hall of Famer still painting the corners — and a young slugger flexing serious muscle.

In the United League, Tony Gwynn of the Arizona Diamondbacks proved that experience never goes out of style. The 37-year-old right fielder turned in a vintage performance, going 11-for-21 for a dazzling .524 batting average. Gwynn drove in 5 runs, scored once, and reminded everyone that elite bat control doesn’t age.

On the season, Gwynn is batting .309 with 3 home runs, 28 RBIs, and 23 runs scored in 65 games, continuing to set the tone atop Arizona’s lineup.

Over in the Federal League, Carlos Delgado of the Milwaukee Creams captured Player of the Week honors with a thunderous showing. The 24-year-old first baseman hit .391 (9-for-23), blasting 5 home runs, driving in 14 RBIs, and scoring 7 runs — a week that demanded attention across the league.

Thus far this season, Delgado has launched 27 home runs while batting .246, continuing to establish himself as one of the Federal League’s premier power threats.

Two leagues, two very different styles — one built on precision, the other on power — and both impossible to ignore.
