The Doubleday Baseball League is pleased to announce its Players of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 14th. Two corner infielders with powerful bats stood out across the league, punishing opposing pitchers and carrying their clubs offensively.

  • Federal League – Frank Thomas, Minnesota Twins
  • United League – Dean Palmer, Toronto Blue Jays

In the United League, Dean Palmer of the Toronto Blue Jays delivered a consistent and dangerous performance at the plate. The third baseman hit .417 for the week, collecting 10 hits in 24 at-bats, including 2 home runs, 5 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. Palmer’s ability to generate offense with both contact and power earned him the United League Player of the Week Award.

Meanwhile, in the Federal League, Frank Thomas of the Minnesota Twins put together a dominant display of raw power. The 27-year-old first baseman posted a blistering .480 batting average, going 12-for-25 with 5 home runs and 9 RBIs across seven games. Thomas’s performance not only earned him the Federal League Player of the Week Award but also reminded opponents why he remains one of the most feared hitters in the game.

Both Palmer and Thomas showcased the kind of offensive firepower that changes the course of games and seasons. Their performances lit up the early weeks of the 1996 campaign, providing their clubs with momentum and their fans with plenty to cheer about.

Congratulations to Dean Palmer and Frank Thomas on their Player of the Week honors.
