The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for the period ending May 19, 1996.

Federal League – Phil Plantier (Orlando)
Right fielder Phil Plantier delivered a scorching week at the plate to earn Federal League Player of the Week honors. The 27-year-old slugger hit .481 (13-for-27) with 6 home runs, 7 RBIs, and 7 games played. Plantier now has 13 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 19 runs scored on the season, with a .313 on-base percentage through 37 games.

United League – Alex Rodriguez (Washington)
Shortstop Alex Rodriguez continued to demonstrate his superstar potential, capturing the United League Player of the Week award. The 20-year-old phenom hit .429 (9-for-21) with 5 home runs and 7 RBIs, wreaking havoc on opposing pitchers. For the year, Rodriguez is batting .313 with 15 home runs, 33 RBIs, a .401 OBP, and 41 runs scored.

These performances once again underscore the impact of both emerging stars and seasoned veterans in shaping the early season narrative of the DBL.
