United League – Ken Griffey Jr. (Seattle Mariners)
Seattle’s superstar center fielder Ken Griffey Jr. continued his remarkable season, earning United League Player of the Week honors. The 26-year-old slugger torched opposing pitchers with a .318 average (7-for-22), blasting 6 home runs, driving in 9 RBIs, and scoring 9 runs. In a postgame press conference, Griffey Jr. summed up his approach with characteristic flair: “Just look for the seams and hit between them… nothin’ more than that.”
On the season, Griffey Jr. is hitting .305 with 35 home runs, leading one of the league’s most potent offenses.
Federal League – Mike Greenwell (Florida Marlins)
Florida’s Mike Greenwell put together a dominant week at the plate, earning Federal League Player of the Week recognition. The 32-year-old left fielder hit .467 (14-for-30) with 3 home runs and 4 RBIs across 7 games, providing a consistent spark for the Marlins. For the year, Greenwell is batting .317 with 12 home runs and 59 RBIs, continuing to be a cornerstone of Florida’s lineup.
