The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for the period ending August 11, 1996.
United League – Hal Morris (Montreal Expos)
Montreal first baseman Hal Morris delivered a scorching week at the plate to earn United League Player of the Week honors. The 31-year-old veteran hit .545 (12-for-22) with 2 home runs, 7 RBIs, and 5 runs scored over five games, anchoring the Expos’ offense with his consistent contact and clutch hitting. On the season, Morris is batting .321 with 12 home runs, 56 RBIs, and 37 runs scored while maintaining a .360 on-base percentage.
Federal League – Kevin Mitchell (Cleveland Spiders)
Cleveland’s Kevin Mitchell powered his way to the Federal League Player of the Week award after a dominant offensive performance. The 34-year-old third baseman batted .480 (12-for-25) with 5 home runs, 10 RBIs, and 8 runs scored, showcasing his trademark power and veteran presence at the plate. For the year, Mitchell is hitting .255 with 31 home runs, continuing to be one of the league’s most feared hitters.
Both Morris and Mitchell displayed the kind of leadership and production that define championship-caliber players in the DBL.
