The Doubleday Baseball League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for the period ending August 18, 1996.

United League – Greg Colbrunn (New York Mets)
New York first baseman Greg Colbrunn turned in a blistering week at the plate to claim United League Player of the Week honors. The 27-year-old slugger hit .526 (10-for-19) with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs, helping power the Mets’ offense through the week. “The Mets fans are really behind me right now,” Colbrunn said after receiving the award. “That helps. They give you the confidence to go out there and do better.” For the season, Colbrunn is batting .259 with 19 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 43 runs scored in 97 games.

Federal League – Barry Bonds (Boston Red Sox)
Boston left fielder Barry Bonds showcased his trademark power and discipline to earn the Federal League Player of the Week award. The 32-year-old star batted .478 (11-for-23) with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs, and 6 runs scored over six games, continuing to be a driving force in the Red Sox lineup. On the season, Bonds is hitting .278 with 27 home runs, 66 RBIs, and 70 runs scored, maintaining his reputation as one of the most dangerous hitters in the league.

Both Colbrunn and Bonds demonstrated exceptional offensive consistency and leadership, fueling their clubs as the playoff race intensifies.
