The Office of the Commissioner of the Doubleday Baseball League today announced that the Kansas City Royals have officially clinched a playoff berth and secured the Federal League Central Division Championship for the 1996 season.
This marks the Royals’ eighth consecutive postseason appearance and their sixth straight division title. Kansas City previously reached the playoffs as a Wild Card team in 1988 and 1989, before beginning their dominant run atop the Central Division.
Since joining the league in 1976, the Royals have now qualified for the postseason 15 times, further cementing their legacy as one of the league’s most successful franchises.
Entering the postseason as the defending Doubleday Baseball League Champions, Kansas City will look to extend their remarkable run and compete for a second consecutive World Series title.
