The Office of the Commissioner of the Doubleday Baseball League today announced the official draft order for non-playoff teams ahead of the upcoming 1997 DBL Rookie Draft.
The draft order is as follows:
- New York Yankees
- Oakland Athletics
- Colorado Rockies
- Boston Red Sox
- Baltimore Orioles
- Chicago White Sox
- Cleveland Spiders
- Detroit Tigers
- Minnesota Twins
- San Diego Padres
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Texas Rangers
- Orlando Devil Rays
- New York Mets
- Seattle Pilots
- Chicago Cubs
Two ties were resolved using home record as the official tiebreaker:
- The Boston Red Sox (38–43 at home) earned the fourth pick, edging the Colorado Rockies (34–47 at home).
- The San Diego Padres (42–39 at home) finished ahead of the Minnesota Twins (40–41 at home), placing San Diego 10th and Minnesota 9th.
The remainder of the draft order will be released upon the completion of the playoffs.
