Late Rally by Orioles Secures Win
|
The Baltimore Orioles overcame a good performance by Washington designated hitter Eric Davis to knock off Washington, 11-8, at RFK Stadium. Davis was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Baltimore reliever Jeff Nelson picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Troy Percival shouldered the loss. With the win, the Orioles improved to 36-47.
Baltimore used the timely hitting of Kelly Gruber to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Orioles on top, 9-8. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Gruber told reporters after the game.
