Spiders Get Road Win, 4-1
|
The Spiders had to overcome a good performance from Cincinnati pitcher Scott Bankhead to claim a 4-1 win at Riverfront Stadium. Bankhead went 9 innings and allowed 4 earned runs. Ron Robinson, credited with the win, is now 10-6. He allowed 1 run on 10 hits in 9 innings. The Spiders bumped their record to 42-42 with this latest triumph.
Cleveland needed the clutch hitting of Bernard Gilkey to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Spiders on top, 4-0. For the game, Gilkey had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Gilkey said after the game.
