Hitchcock, Spiders Dispatch Yankees
|
The Cleveland Spiders got a stellar performance from pitcher Sterling Hitchcock, who handcuffed the New York offense en route to a 3-0 win at Yankee Stadium. Steve Karsay got the save, his 21st in 28 chances. The Spiders saw their win-loss record go to 43-42. At the same time, the Yankees fell to 28-56.
Hitchcock was in the zone all game. He frustrated New York hitters while giving the Spiders 8 innings of quality work. Hitchcock threw 109 pitches, allowing 3 hits and getting 9 punchouts.
"We played hard and won," said Hitchcock. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
