4-1 Cubs Win over Cardinals Evens Season Record
|
Chicago turned a good effort from starter Angel Miranda into a win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The final score was 4-1. Miranda, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 6, and allowing 1 earned run. The Cubs saw their win-loss record go to 42-42. At the same time, the Cardinals fell to 40-45.
A key at-bat came in the top of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, the batter, Mike Piazza, hit a sacrifice fly. It made the score 2-1, Chicago, and helped them go on to win.
"I liked his command," said Chicago manager Anthony Perez. "Angel was throwing strikes."
