Victory Pushes Cardinals Record to 49-37
|
St. Louis starter Miguel Batista pitched effectively against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Batista, now 4-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 3 earned runs. Steve Chitren earned his 22nd save in 24 chances.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from second baseman Dickie Thon. For the game, Thon was 1-3 with a double. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 17th double of the season gave St. Louis a 4-3 lead.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Batista.
The Cardinals bumped their record to 49-37 with this latest triumph.
