Victory Pushes Rockies Record to 42-41
|
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Oakland Athletics, 7-3, in United League action at Mile High Stadium, with Colorado pitcher Orel Hershiser named player of the game. The winning pitcher was Hershiser, now 6-7. He tossed 7.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 10. Oakland has now lost 4 consecutive games.
The Rockies got a big at-bat from third baseman Chris Sabo. For the game, Sabo was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Colorado a 2-0 lead.
Sabo said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
