Victory Over Spiders Takes Cincinnati to 53-32
Cincinnati turned a good effort from starter David Wells into a win over the Cleveland Spiders at Riverfront Stadium. The final score was 4-2. Todd Worrell, credited with the save, is now 22 for 24 in save opportunities. Cincinnati goes to 53-32. The win puts them 6½ games up in their division.

Eric Davis was a prime factor in the win for the Reds. In the bottom of the second with one out, the slick-fielding center fielder hit a 2-run home run. He was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"I just try to put up zeroes," said Wells, "and let the rest take care of itself."
