Gibson slugs 2 home runs as Sun Rays Squeeze Past Cincinnati

The Orlando Sun Rays defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4, at Riverfront Stadium. Orlando left fielder Kirk Gibson was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. John Smoltz, credited with the win, is now 11-5. He allowed 4 runs on 11 hits in 8 innings. Today's win puts Orlando at 45-41, while Cincinnati falls to 48-37.
Paul Householder took Arthur Rhodes deep with one out in the top of the ninth. On a 2-1 fastball, Householder drilled a 2-run home run to left. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put Orlando on top, 5-4.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Cincinnati manager Eric Deutsch.
