Seattle designated hitter Edgar Martinez was a significant contributor in his team's 7-6 triumph over the Oakland Athletics. He hit 2 home runs for Seattle. Bob Milacki got the save, his 1st in 2 chances. The win puts the Pilots at 41-45, while the Athletics drop to 39-46.

Martinez came through with some timely hitting for Seattle. With the score 2-2 in the top of the fifth and no one down, Martinez hit a 2-2 curveball for a solo home run. His 21st home run of the season made it 3-2, Seattle.

Pilots manager wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
