Guthrie Dazzles in Kansas City Win
|
The Kansas City Royals got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Mark Guthrie, but it was good enough for the club to take a 3-0 decision over the St. Louis Cardinals. Mike Stanton converted his 26th save in 29 tries. Kansas City leads the Federal League Central Division by 16½ games.
Guthrie allowed no earned runs on 5 hits over 8.1 innings for the Royals. He walked 1 and struck out 5.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Guthrie told the Kansas City Chronicle.
