Giants Edge Past Dodgers, 2-1
|
Los Angeles pitcher Bret Saberhagen gave the Giants all they could handle, but in the end, San Francisco left Dodger Stadium with a 2-1 win. Saberhagen allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits over 8.1 innings. Randy Myers notched his 21st save in 23 chances. The Giants go to 50-37, putting them third in the United League West Division.
San Francisco used the timely hitting of Jeff King to capture the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Giants on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Runs were at a premium," said San Francisco manager Alen Maglajac.
