Cardinals Turn Back Minnesota, 7-5
|
St. Louis shortstop John Valentin made his presence felt in the 7-5 Cardinals triumph over the Minnesota Twins. Valentin went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jay Tibbs, credited with the win, is now 1-2. He allowed 5 runs on 10 hits in 7 innings. Terry Mathews got the save, his 1st in 4 chances.
Momentum swung to the Cardinals in the bottom of the fifth, when Valentin, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a 3-run home run. It propelled the Cardinals into the lead, 7-3.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Valentin told the St. Louis Bulletin.
With the victory, the Cardinals record now stands at 41-47.
