Royals Turn Back Cubs, 7-5
|
The Kansas City Royals stopped the Chicago Cubs, 7-5, behind an impressive performance from Ray Lankford. The 28-year old center fielder made life miserable for Chicago pitching. He was 2-5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Mike Stanton got the save, his 4th in 4 chances. The Royals have an impressive 58-29 record.
Lankford contributed a big hit, a 2-run triple, for Kansas City in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 3-2, Lankford took a changeup from Eric King and stroked the triple to left. His 4th triple of the season allowed the Royals to leap in front, 4-3.
"We'll savor this win," Lankford told the Kansas City Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."
