Valentin Slugs Pirates to 6-1 Win
|
It was a fun time at Three Rivers Stadium, where the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates tangled.
The Pittsburgh Pirates bested the New York Yankees, 6-1, at Three Rivers Stadium. Jose Valentin was named player of the game. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Doug Drabek was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts.
With Pittsburgh leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Valentin hit a sinker from Anthony Young for a solo home run. It was his 21st home run of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 3-1.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Pittsburgh manager Stephen Ginter. "Our pregame was pretty good."
At 47-41, Pittsburgh is in second place in the Federal League East Division.
