Blue Jays Get Win, Extend Streak to 4
|
The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Detroit Tigers, 3-2. Earning player of the game honors was first baseman Mark McGwire, who went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Danny Jackson, credited with the win, is now 7-6. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 5.1 innings. The Tigers, now 32-56, have lost 5 straight.
Edgar Caceres had a big run-scoring double for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the second inning. With Toronto leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from Jim Neidlinger and stroked the double to right. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-1.
"We'll savor this win," Caceres told the Toronto Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."
