Pirates Top Yankees Behind Hammond, 2-1
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a magnificent effort from pitcher Chris Hammond, who kept New York hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Pirates win at Yankee Stadium. The second-place Pirates now have a 5-game winning streak.
Hammond gave Pittsburgh a solid start. The left-hander, who is listed at 6' 1", 195 lbs, allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 8 innings.
"I was a little disappointed," said New York manager Patrick McQuail. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
