Pilots Hold Off Dodgers, 5-4
|
Los Angeles designated hitter Ryan Klesko had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 5-4, to Seattle at Kingdome. Klesko was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Seattle starter Todd Van Poppel was credited with the win after throwing 131 pitches over 6.1 innings. His record now stands at 9-7. Darren Holmes, credited with the save, is now 12 for 17 in save opportunities.
Terry Pendleton had a big run-scoring single for the Pilots in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Seattle leading 4-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Donovan Osborne and stroked the single to right-center. It was his 75th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pilots ahead, 5-1.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Los Angeles manager Andrew Cole.
Los Angeles, at 43-47, has lost 6 straight.
