Ibanez Slugs Spiders to 6-2 Win
The Cleveland Spiders stymied the New York Yankees, 6-2, at League Park. Raul Ibanez, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He went 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for Cleveland. The 4th-place Spiders raised their record to 45-46.

The Spiders got a lift from third baseman Kevin Mitchell, who in the bottom of the sixth hit a solo home run. His 26th home run of the season put the Spiders on top, 4-2.

Mitchell called the win "a collective effort."
