Red Sox Throttle Pirates, 6-0
|
Boston played host to Pittsburgh at the friendly confines of Fenway Park.
The Boston Red Sox got a stellar performance from pitcher Mike Remlinger, who handcuffed the Pittsburgh offense en route to a 6-0 win at Fenway Park. Remlinger, the winner, moves to 6-5. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 3 walks. Pete Harnisch converted his 4th save in 5 tries.
In the bottom of the third, Boston left fielder Jesus Tavarez had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and no one out, Tavarez stroked a run-scoring double to right. It made the score 2-0, Boston. For the game, he was 2-3 with a double.
Remlinger told a Boston News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
Boston is 4th in the Federal League East Division with a record of 47-43.
