Cardinals Score Late to Upend Cubs, 4-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, knocking off the Chicago Cubs, 4-3. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Rene Arocha, who played a pivotal role in the win. Rusty Meacham, credited with the save, is now 1 for 2 in save opportunities. The Cardinals improve their record to 43-48 with the win over Chicago.
Tied up with the Cubs in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Cardinals got a boost from second baseman Mike Benjamin. With the bases loaded, Benjamin saw a 0-2 sinker from Tim Davis and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put St. Louis on top, 4-3.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said St. Louis manager Adam Rabel.
