Senators Come Up Short at Detroit
|
Detroit Tigers starter Marty Bystrom was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Washington Senators, 3-2. Bystrom, now 6-8, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. Detroit now sits in 5th place in the United League East Division at 37-55.
Mark Bailey went 1 for 3 for Detroit. The 32-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Woody Williams. It was his 19th RBI of the season.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Bystrom said after the game.
