Mets Win in Extras
The New York Mets took Montreal pitcher Pedro Martinez's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Olympic Stadium. The final score had New York getting past the Expos, 7-3. Martinez went 8.2 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, striking out 14. New York reliever Willie Blair picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Mike Jeffcoat took the loss. New York is first in the United League East Division with a record of 52-40.

New York used the timely hitting of Dave Magadan to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Mets on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Our team showed some spunk," said Magadan.
