The Diamondbacks had to overcome a fine effort from San Diego pitcher Darryl Kile to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Bank One Ballpark. Kile went 6.2 innings and allowed no earned runs. Arizona reliever Danny Patterson was the winner. His record is now 2-3. The losing pitcher was Stan Belinda. Arizona is now 47-45.
Arizona designated hitter Bobby M Estalella had a key at-bat for the Diamondbacks in the bottom of the tenth inning. Facing San Diego pitcher Stan Belinda, Estalella hit a walk-off run-scoring single to make the score 4-3, Arizona. For the day, he went 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.
"I was a little disappointed," said San Diego manager Matt Dodds. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
