Padres Beat Visiting Giants, 4-3
|
San Diego beat San Francisco at Jack Murphy Stadium, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Mark Langston, who earned player of the game honors. In 6 innings, Langston surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. The losing streak for San Francisco has now reached 5 games.
One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd in the bottom of the third inning. Facing San Francisco hurler Bob Sebra, Manny Ramirez, who finished 4th in the UL in slugging percentage with .541 in 1993, hit a sacrifice fly. The Padres went on to win.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Langston said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
