Smiley Sensational for Red Sox
|
Boston Red Sox starter John Smiley turned in a sterling performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates, leading his team to a slim 1-0 win. Scott Erickson got the save, his 12th in 15 chances. Boston has now won 3 in a row.
The Pirates had trouble solving Smiley, who surrendered no earned runs on 5 hits over 8 innings.
"I liked his command," said Boston manager Brett Williams. "John was throwing strikes."
