Yankees Come Up Short at Florida
The Florida Marlins turned back the New York Yankees, 3-2, at Joe Robbie Stadium. Juan Encarnacion was named player of the game for his fine performance. He went 2-3 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Florida reliever Paul Byrd picked up the win to move to 1-0. Brian Moehler suffered the loss. Florida is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 4th in 10 games.

Encarnacion had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 sinker from Brian Moehler, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Marlins a 3-2 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Encarnacion.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Florida skipper Stephen Ginter.
