Mark Guthrie Goes Distance in Win
The Montreal Expos picked up a win at Olympic Stadium, knocking off the Detroit Tigers, 9-1. Starting pitcher Mark Guthrie, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The Expos bumped their record to 57-35 with this latest triumph.

Guthrie, a native of Buffalo, New York, was dealing all game. He kept Detroit hitters off-balance, while giving the Expos 9 quality innings. Guthrie threw 135 pitches, allowing 6 hits and striking out 10.

"I felt we were ready to go," said Montreal manager David Polakoff. "Our pregame was pretty good."
