Spiders Subdue Florida, 4-2
|
Cleveland pitcher Nate Minchey did his part in helping his team beat the Florida Marlins, 4-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The first-place Marlins have lost 4 consecutive games.
Billy Ripken was 2 for 3 with 2 singles for Cleveland. The 32-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Butch Henry. It was his 27th RBI of the season.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Cleveland manager Wilson Ogle.
