Yankees Need Extra Frames to Get Past Red Sox
|
The New York Yankees picked up a win at Fenway Park, knocking off the Boston Red Sox, 2-1. Starting pitcher Anthony Young was an essential part of his team's success. New York reliever David Cone was credited with the win, to go to 2-1. Steve Bedrosian took the loss for Boston. New York is now 36-58.
Both teams had trouble scoring runs. So, Derrick May's at-bat in the top of the 11th was crucial. With two out, the New York left fielder hit a run-scoring double, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said Boston manager Brett Williams.
