Pirates Trip Red Sox in Extras
|
Pittsburgh starter Chris Hammond had a strong outing against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 5-3 win. Hammond, the winner, moves to 2-4. He threw 9 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 3 walks. Bryan Harvey earned his 27th save in 28 chances.
The Pirates got a big boost from pinch hitter Ed Taubensee who had a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning off Red Sox hurler John Ericks. It was his 13th double of the season and put Pittsburgh on top, 4-3.
"I like our resilience," said Taubensee.
The Pirates improve their record to 53-41 with the win over Boston.
