Padres Win at San Francisco, 5-2
|
Spirited fans at Candlestick Park greeted the San Francisco Giants for their clash with the San Diego Padres.
The San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants, 5-2, in United League action at Candlestick Park, with San Diego pitcher Eric Hillman named player of the game. Hillman went the distance for San Diego. He gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits.
It could have been a different outcome for San Diego, had it not been for Kurt Abbott, the 25-year old shortstop . Abbott contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put San Diego up, 2-0.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Hillman.
Even with the win, the Padres have a dismal 29-67 record.
