Colorado overcame a superlative game from Ismael Valdez to beat San Diego, 2-1. The San Diego pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. Colorado is 5th in the United League West Division with a record of 44-50.

With runs few and far between, the Rockies had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Colorado came in the top of the fourth inning, when third baseman Bill R Mueller delivered a run-scoring double. The double was hit off Ismael Valdez and made the score 1-0, Rockies. Mueller went 1-4 with a double.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Mueller told the Colorado News.
