Red Sox Score Late, Upend Royals, 4-2
|
The Boston Red Sox bested the Kansas City Royals by a score of 4-2, with second baseman Mike Blowers getting the main credit. On the day, Blowers was 3-4 with 3 singles for the Red Sox. Boston reliever Tim Worrell picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Kevin Brown was saddled with the loss. The Red Sox saw their win-loss record go to 35-61. At the same time, the Royals fell to 61-35.
Had Mike Cameron not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Cameron hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Red Sox.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Boston manager Brett Williams. "It's usually not just one thing."
