Royals Need Extra Frames to Get Past Yankees
|
The Kansas City Royals stopped the New York Yankees, 7-6, at Royals Stadium. The Royals got a big game from Rick Wilkins, who went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. John Habyan got credit for the win, improving to 1-2. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. Kansas City is now riding a 7-game win streak.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Kansas City second baseman Quilvio Veras, facing Andy Ashby, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Royals the 7-6 win.
"This game tested our mettle," said Wilkins.
