Orioles Squelch Rockies Offense in Shutout Win
|
Dedicated fans at Memorial Stadium weathered the storm to watch their beloved Orioles beat the Rockies.
Baltimore used a superb performance from starting pitcher Steve Avery to down the Colorado Rockies, 3-0. Avery, the winner, moves to 8-6. He threw 5 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 5 walks.
The Orioles beat the Rockies with some clutch hitting. The single by Kelly Gruber in the bottom of the fourth is a good example. With two down, Gruber gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he came through with the big hit.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Gruber. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The Orioles, now 41-55, have won 4 in a row.
