Red Sox Come Up Short at Orlando
The Orlando Devil Rays picked up a win at Orlando Citrus Bowl, knocking off the Boston Red Sox, 4-3. On the mound for Orlando was right-hander John Smoltz, who played a pivotal role in the win. The Red Sox drop to 4-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1997 season.

In the bottom of the fourth, Orlando shortstop Jose Oquendo had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and one out, Oquendo stroked a run-scoring single to left-center. It made the score 4-0, Orlando. For the game, he was 1-3.

"I was a little disappointed," said Boston manager Brett Williams. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
