Giants Lose to Blue Jays, 5-2
|
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the San Francisco Giants, 5-2, at Candlestick Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Ellis Burks, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Frank Wills went 5.1 innings for Toronto to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 2 earned runs. He scattered 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 0. His record improves to 6-5. Their 53-45 record puts the Blue Jays 4th in the United League East Division.
With Toronto leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Burks hit a slider from Mike Harkey for a 3-run home run. It was his 18th home run of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 4-0.
"We take it day by day here," said Burks, "and today was a good one for us."
