The New York Yankees defeated the Charlotte Knights, 5-3, in Federal League action at Yankee Stadium, with New York pitcher Mark Langston named player of the game. Even with the win, the Yankees have a dismal 34-65 record.

Phil B. Clark went 1-3. He drove in 2 runs for New York. The 29-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Mike Hartley. It was his 34th RBI of the season.

"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Clark.
