Multi-HR Day for Garcia as Cardinals Overpower Reds, 6-2
|
Behind the bravura of right fielder Karim Garcia, the St. Louis Cardinals topped the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 6-2. Garcia hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Cardinals. Scott Erickson, the winner, improved to 9-8. He held the Reds to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Steve Chitren earned his 17th save in 22 chances.
Stan Javier had a key at-bat with two out in the top of the sixth for St. Louis. With runners on 1st and 3rd and the Cardinals leading 3-2, he hit a run-scoring single.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Javier told the St. Louis Bulletin.
The 5th-place Cardinals lifted their record to 47-53.
