White Sox Take Nail-Biter Over Spiders
|
Chicago beat Cleveland at Comiskey Park, eking out a 3-2 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Shane Reynolds, who earned player of the game honors. The winner was Chicago reliever Joel Johnston, now 4-3. The loser was Sterling Hitchcock. With the win, the White Sox have a record of 37-65.
Coming to the plate with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning, Chicago second baseman Robby Thompson had a chance to be the hero. Facing Cleveland pitcher Sterling Hitchcock with a runner on 3rd, Thompson, who finished 5th in the FL in slugging percentage with .549 in 1990, hit a sacrifice fly.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Thompson.
