The Oakland Athletics defeated the New York Mets, 8-3, in United League action at Shea Stadium, with Oakland pitcher Matt Morris named player of the game. The Athletics now have a record of 45-54.

Oakland used the timely hitting of Devon White to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Athletics on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"We take it day by day here," said White, "and today was a good one for us."
