Blue Jays Bang Out 6-2 Win Versus Oakland
|
The Toronto Blue Jays knocked off the Oakland Athletics, 6-2, at SkyDome. Dean Palmer, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Toronto won. The third baseman was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. John Smiley got the win, improving to 8-8. He worked 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. The third-place Blue Jays raised their record to 55-46.
Also making an impact was left fielder Ellis Burks, who drilled a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third inning for the Blue Jays. For the game, Burks was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Burks told the Toronto Chronicle. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
