Spiders Lose to Cardinals, 8-5
|
John Valentin made an impact in the 8-5 St. Louis win over Cleveland. Valentin, who is a two-time All-Star, went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. St. Louis has now won 3 in a row.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from designated hitter Mo Vaughn. For the game, Vaughn was 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 21st hit of the season gave St. Louis a 5-3 lead.
"It was a solid team effort," said Valentin after the game.
