Sun Rays Squelch White Sox Offense in Shutout Win
|
Spirited fans at Comiskey Park greeted the Chicago White Sox for their clash with the Orlando Sun Rays.
The Sun Rays grabbed a win, 3-0, at Comiskey Park, overcoming a fine effort from Chicago pitcher Jay Tibbs. Tibbs went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Orlando reliever Allen Watson got the win, raising his record to 6-7. Jay Tibbs was tagged with the loss. Rod Beck notched his 17th save in 20 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Orlando, had it not been for Kirk Gibson, the eight-time All-Star . Gibson contributed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put Orlando up, 1-0.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Gibson told the Orlando Bulletin.
The third-place Sun Rays improved to 53-49.
