Royals Topple Red Sox with Late Rally
|
The Kansas City Royals defeated the Boston Red Sox, 4-3, in Federal League action at Royals Stadium, with Kansas City pitcher Denny Neagle named player of the game. The first-place Royals, at 65-37, now lead their division by 4 games.
Jeromy Burnitz produced at a critical juncture for Kansas City. It happened in the bottom of the eighth with Paul Assenmacher on the mound and Kansas City trailing 3-2. That's when the former first round draft pick Burnitz hit a 2-run home run.
Neagle told a Kansas City Chronicle reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
